About Velour

The Velour story started back in 1997 when Per Andersson rummaged through the store of his grandmother's old ready-to-wear shop, which closed in the mid eighties after 50 years of business. He decided to make use of this asset and opened Nostalgi together with a couple of friends. The shop sold the dead stock clothes together with re-makes, art and design and became a forum for the Göteborg independent scene. It also attracted international attention. Nostagi's creative customers inspired the Velour team to, in 2002 take the step towards designing their own clothes; and the first Velour collection was launched in 2005.

Today the Velour team consists of a dozen people including founder and ad Per Andersson. Velour can be found in more than 100 selected retail shops, mainly situated in the Scandinavian countries Norway, Sweden, Finland and Denmark. On the European continent it can be found in Germany, France, Belgium, Holland, Spain and in the United Kingdom. Overseas Velour is represented in Canada, Australia, Japan and the U.S.

Velour’s nerve springs out of their history, eclectic inspiration and their values. Velour is offering a perfect fit and beautiful details, leaving it up to the wearer to create his or her own individual style, offering key pieces or a whole
wardrobe.

Göteborg

Göteborg, or Gothenburg, is the ‘second city’ of Sweden. It lies on the fjord of the country’s west coast, at the mouth of the Göta River, and looks across the Kattegat strait to the tip of Denmark, then, peering around Norway’s rump, out to the North Sea and Scotland. Göteborg rests on three legs: the sea, the harbour based industry and the underground music scene. Its population, around half a million, is headstrong, tough and creative. The sea has traditionally been the main provider of work, with fishing and transport, but during the last few decades the harbour and its industries have lost their dominance. Still the nautic Göteborg influence is visible and the nearness to the archipelago is present making the city a popular residential area.

The creative culture has developed in the shade of the capital, based on a strong diy ethic. Increasingly musicians, artists, designers and enthusiastic entrepreneurs – the youthful culture that gives the city its raffishness and economic vitality – are staying in, or returning to Göteborg and signs of Göteborg’s newfound urban felicity are found everywhere. Musical artists have attained international success; and the Göteborg fashion labels are becoming global cult favourites and economic drivers.

The Long Streets in the Linné district, where the Velour studio is situated, represent a bottom-up scene of the classic mixed-use variety: coffee shops, galleries, artist studios, recording labs and sex shops all sit side by side, sharing

Feelgood preppy

The overall design concept of Velour springs out of a classic preppy look with traditional garments redesigned in a new stylish, yet effortless, way. We call this Feelgood Preppy. This style has Swedish west coast influences and addresses curious individuals who have an interest in trends but, unlike the fashion slave, are reflective and make their own interpretation. New Libertine Libertine & Wood Wood Stock!!

We’re back again to tell you of more new stock here at www.not-addicted.co.uk and there’s some pretty nice clobber if we might say so ourselves!!!!

Libertine Libertine as some even say so good they named it twice!!!!! The Danish brand have sent us a couple of cracking check shirts the Hobo in Chinese Red and Purple Plumera, classic crew neck t shirts Brake Stamp in white, Brake Box in navy and Brake Dirty in washed blue. For the cooler spring nights there’s the Liar Crew Neck Knit Jumper and for the hot summer days the Coin knee length shorts.

Next it’s one of our favourite brands another one from Denmark it’s Wood Wood. A couple of nice steady check shirts the Manolo in Grey and Pink, 4 great summer T Shirts the Jones, Larry Stripe, Dry Your Eye(as Mike Skinner also once said) and the Sunny Side Up. New YMC, Pointer, Common People and Spring Court!!!!

More new gear has landed at Not Addicted so here we go............First up it’s something for your feet, a nice and easy one it’s Pointer. We’ve got the classic Cyril in mahogany leather, Crago in dark chocolate brown suede, the casual AJS in tan and the brand new Conor in Ox Blood waxed suede.

Keeping with feet we’ve got a new brand Common People whose first styles have just dropped with us, they are very classic looking and made of quality materials. The Young is a low cut suede shoe with crepe sole which we’ve got in dark chocolate brown and soft blue which is ideal for the summer months, the Nash is a desert boot in soft brown leather with crepe sole. Keep an eye on the site for more styles from Common People to come.

Next up is one of our favourite brands YMC and as usual they haven’t let us down. In shirting there’s the stripe Peasant Shirt, the short sleeved Overhead Chambray Shirt and an absolute cracker in the Hunting Shirt. The basic stripe T shirt comes in 2 colours Navy & White and Red & White, if you want a pair of chinos but something a bit more than the norm YMC have done a Selvage Chino in tan. Outerwear as always from YMC is bang on, the simple lightweight Hooded Mac in navy is ideal for any occasion, they’ve team up with Gloverall and produced a Made In England fisherman style duffle Waxed Cotton Jacket in bright yellow and to us the jewel in the crown the Mountain Parka.......well we’ll let you have a look and make your own mind up on that one.

We hope everyone is fine and dandy!!! As we promised a couple of weeks ago we’ve got some new stock to tell you about, we won’t hang around today as we’re busy busy here at the minute sorting new stock for this season and looking at the new collections for A/W11.

First up we’ve got a few bits from Farah Vintage. 3 classic polos, the Merriwether in Navy and White and the Ives in Black and a cracking jacket in the Howe, this is a waxed cotton jacket with removable hood in a very tasty Kelly green colour.

Next up Mr Gallagher has sent us a bit of Pretty Green. The Pique T Shirt in sky blue, the Stripe Logo T Shirt, the Classic Logo T Shirt in white and the very Mod Black Tipped Polo Shirt, there’s plenty more Pretty Green to come this season but that’s a bit to give you a taster.

A favourite from last season the Danish Brand Won Hundred new collection has just landed and it’s simplicity and style is second to none. We’ve got the classic Time Sweatshirt in Charcoal and Navy, the simple Scoop Neck T Shirt in White and Navy, the Lock Check Shirt in auroa red, the Willus Shirt and the nautical Mandate Stripe T Shirt.

A brand new label for us this season is Suit DK. We’ve only had 2 piece delivered so far but I’m sure you’ll agree they’re belters, its the Samson Jacket in Navy and Golden Glow, we honestly don’t think you’ll find a better jacket for the money anywhere this season, it really is that good!!!!

Lastly but by no means not least is Guy Cotten. We’ve basically had a restock of all the classics, the Derby Jacket in Navy, Red and Green. The ‘Roue Libre’ Long Sleeve T Shirt In Cream/Navy and Navy/Cream which are both ideal for the upcoming spring months.

Liam Gallagher/Pretty Green Article From Recent Issue of Drapers

The rock star’s Pretty Green brand has swaggered into the menswear market, last week landing a Drapers Award. But the Oasis frontman is sure it won’t be a one-hit wonder.

I don’t do offices, mate. I’m not Ricky Gervais,” says Liam Gallagher, instantly brushing aside claims by his colleagues that he spends about a day a week in the HQ of Pretty Green, the menswear label he founded 18 months ago and was last week named Drapers Menswear Brand of the Year.

Instead, the Oasis frontman and Manchester icon gets involved with the design process at his kitchen table. “Me and [creative director] Nick Holland sit down at my house, and go through fabrics and styles. Nothing goes out unless I approve it,” he says. “I’ve always been interested in clothes, so to own my own label is very special.”

It’s an amusing image - this rock ‘n’ roll bad boy using his hands to finger swatches instead of flicking V signs at the paparazzi - but if Pretty Green chief executive Richard Ralph is to be believed, Gallagher’s “approval” doesn’t quite cover it.

“It’s more collaborative than that. Liam has a very strong sense of style himself,” he says. “Nick is the facilitator if you like. Liam is very meticulous about the details of things: Does the zip look right? Are the buttons right? Are the colours of the buttons right?”

Whoever is responsible - Gallagher, Holland or a harmonious combination of the two - Pretty Green’s sophisticated cut and attention to detail is what makes the label stand out and has silenced the sceptics who assumed Gallagher’s label would be just another in a line of disastrous celebrity-led clothing brands.

Pretty Green’s casualwear sub-brand Green Label is characterised by branded buttons and nods to the 1960s, but its premium sub-brand Black Label is where Holland’s background as a traditional tailor [he founded men’s suiting brand Holland Esquire] really comes into play.

The Drapers Award is a validation of this, says Gallagher. “I’m made up. It makes me feel like we are doing something right.”

Quality counts

Mark Bage, owner of York premium independent Sarah Coggles, which does a brisk trade in the Black Label range, agrees: “It is exceptionally good quality and really well designed. Nick’s

technical expertise means they haven’t gone for standard fit. They’ve really thought about who is wearing it.” According to Bage, Black Label is favoured by “macho” men, whose butch frames don’t necessarily suit the nipped-in waists and genteel styling of Italian labels.

It’s perhaps surprising then that Pretty Green’s best-performing territories outside the UK are Italy and Japan - neither of them known for the butch physiques of their male populations - but according to Ralph, Gallagher’s followers in those countries “are even more committed than in the UK”.

For a rock ‘n’ roll icon, Gallagher took a surprisingly un-rock ‘n’ roll route to launching Pretty Green. He and his long-standing security adviser Steve Allen had been discussing the potential for a clothing line on the 2008 Oasis tour and, when it ended, tapped up former Microsoft executive Nigel Grant to help them raise investment and assemble their dream team.

Holland was hired to focus on the product and Ralph, who as former chief financial officer at IT firm Ubiquity Software Corporation had no experience in fashion but plenty in accounting, was put in charge of steering the ship. Gallagher, who retains a majority stake in the company (the remainder is split between management and unnamed investors), is the frontman.

“It’s been good. Met some nice people, it moves a lot faster than the music,” he says of the transition to fashion.

The plan worked. Pretty Green has turned over about £4m in the 18 months since its launch, smack bang in the middle of the recession, and is currently breaking even. It expects to move into profit next year.

About half of that revenue comes via Pretty Green’s retail website, and the remainder from its wholesale business, which has about 100 UK stockists, including Sarah Coggles and Selfridges, and a further 30 or so overseas.

Pretty Green is also branching into bricks-and-mortar retail. It opened its first pop-up shop on London’s Carnaby Street in July and is negotiating the leases on two more - in Manchester’s King Street and Ingram Street in Glasgow.

Overall, 30% of Pretty Green’s business comes from 80 territories overseas, and that proportion looks set to grow next year as Pretty Green focuses on international expansion. “[I’m after] world domination. I want PG to be global without losing its roots,” says Gallagher.

Big fanbase

Pretty Green may have some way to go in India though. At a recent meeting with Tata - India’s industrial giant which owns everything from department stores to lorry factories - one of the executives confused Pretty Green with fashion’s other PG, and congratulated Ralph on the success of his “Philip Green menswear brand”.

This would be annoying for most menswear brands, but it’s perhaps a mark of success for Pretty Green to have its celebrity associations overlooked.

Gallagher says: “Having me fronting things can go one of two ways. There are people who get me, and there are people that don’t. But the clothes speak for themselves.”

It will be a challenge to manage this balance between the Pretty Green and Gallagher ‘brands’ while chasing growth, but Ralph says the company is committed to a slow and steady approach that will allow this.

This is why, for example, Pretty Green will probably not launch a womenswear collection, as has been widely mooted, until around this time next year.

Says Ralph: “We’ve had discussions but if and when we do do [womenswear] it will be a case of moving into it slowly, by doing a capsule collection to start off with. We have great momentum as a brand but it’s very easy to drift off into popular [product] areas and lose your creative direction that way. We are keen to make sure the right time and effort will go into each item.”

The naysayers had better watch out. It turns out that Gallagher, the unlikely fashion mogul, is serious about product and is in it for the long haul.

Pretty Green Clothing was founded in 2009 by former Oasis front man Liam Gallagher. In his own words Gallagher’s passions are Clothes and Music and with that he created Pretty Green offering the styles of clothing he’d wear himself including Jackets, T Shirts, Polo Shirts, Jumpers, Scarves, Shirts etc.

With the bank holiday weekend upon us i'm sure a lot of you will be going will be going out for a few at some point whether it's to the match or just for a session. We've had some decent weather recently but is it going to hold out for the weekend??? I'm sure there'll be a few girls around town in their skimpy bits but what are us lads going to drop on??????

We're thinking it's not going to be a scorcher but not winter climes and reckon something along the lines of a nice selvage pair of jeans maybe Edwin ED71 teamed up with a classic pair of deck shoes you cant beat Sperry you know and on the upper body we're going for a middle of the road piece, normally we'd be all over a jacket but think an over shirt is the one and the Norsea Industries Sikker is bang on the money!!!!!

A Bit Of Slazenger Nostalgia!!!!!!

Norsea Industries gear is now live on the website and we think it's one of the nicest new brands we've seen for a while!!!

There's the Sikker Overshirt which is a cotton twill overshirt with 2 button fastening chest pockets and double fastening detail, we've got it in Navy and Olive.

We've just had delivery of one of the favoured labels with the casuals back in the 80s Fila Vintage and it's still as popular with many today!!!

The classic Settanta Matchday Track Top has now been reproduced exactly as the mk1 was back in the day with the identical zip and the pin stripe detail as the one Borg wore and we've got it in Red & White and Navy & Blue, theres the classic Love Track Top that was featured in Nick Loves remake of The Firm in Navy and Lemon and a brand new Tracksuit Top in the Aquilani!!!

On the polo shirt front theres the simple Match pique polo again in navy and lemon and the Five Stripe Polo in crisp white!!!!!

Always a favourite for the summer are Fila Shorts and we've got the Baseline in Navy and White so if any of you fancy yourself as a bit of a Dyer and want to be swanning round Marbella(or Mablethorpe even) showing your legs off these are for you!!!

We've just had delivery of a brand that some of you will be familiar with from quite a few years and some of you younger lads might just see it as sportswear!!!!!

Slazenger Heritage is a relaunch of the brand that was very popular in the 80s with many of the young casuals and anyone else who thought they were a bit of a dresser, a nice basic knit whether it be a v neck or cardigan team up with a straight leg pair of jeans and rare pair of European Adidas trainers became the choice look for many on the terraces.

Away from the casual and trendy dresser scene Slazenger was worn by Bing Crosby, Sean Connery in Goldfinger and the legend that is Seve Ballesteros wore it for its original purpose.

Years after it was seen as a fashion brand Damon Albarn wore a Slazenger Tracksuit Top in Blurs Parklife video, contrary to what many thought it was Slazenger and not Fila.

The new range includes V Neck Jumpers, Cardigans, Polo Shirts and yes that exact Track Top that appeared in Blurs Hit Parklife!!!!

We’ve just added the latest offerings from our favourite denim brand to the website Edwin Jeans!!!!

To us Edwin do really offer some of the best quality denim in the best fits available at really affordable prices, whether it’s a Japanese Selvage Jean you’re after or something with a bit of detail in the wash of denim.

We’ve just added the ED39 which is a regular fit jean in 13.7oz Unwashed Red Selvage and Hidetora Unwashed Organic 12oz Denim so there’s a choice in that one, the ED62 which is another one of Edwins regular fit jeans but slightly slimmer in Hidetora Unwashed Organic 12oz Denim and finally on the Jeans front is the ED71 which is a slim fitting jean but nothing too skinny and this is in a Tip Top 13.7oz Unwashed Red Selvage Denim.

Edwin Jeans we might say but a bit more to them than denim there is we’ve got the Ken Shirt which is a nice simple classic button down long sleeve shirt, the Nautilus T Shirt which is a washed blue and white broken stripe tee and finally the EC Pocket T Shirt a basic plain marl grey t shirt with single chest pocket

A move on from last seasons Mountain Providence Parka is the same classic cut jacket but now split in to 2 colours which im sure you'll agree looks pretty bang on!!! We’ve just added the latest collection from one of our favourite brands to the website.......Penfield!!!

The classic outdoor clothing brand from Massachusetts never fails to deliver some quality Jackets at unbelievable prices.

For those of you like us that lived Britpop you’ll remember the legendary Oasis Maine Road when Noel wore a particularly cool looking cream and red jacket which happened to be Penfield. 14 years on and Penfield have reissued the Pac Jac Jacket to celebrate to celebrate their 35th Anniversary, its made exactly as it was before and is a limited edition so if you fancy one don’t hang around!!!!!

There’s the classic Vassan Jacket(which is basically the lightweight summer version of the ever popular Kasson) in a lovely vintage looking orange so its ideal for those who want to stand out in a crowd. A new jacket from Penfield is the Gibson which im sure you’ll agree looks pretty tasty comes in Navy and Red and both have a nice nautical look to them!!!!!

Another jacket that’s been in the Penfield collection for a while is the Lockwood they’ve now develop it a bit and it a cracking jacket. It now comes in a lightweight slightly waxed cotton and they’ve added 2 hand warmer above lower pockets and made a couple of other tweaks to it.
The Kingsfield is a dead simple in waxed light khaki with brass press stud fastening which gives a great casual look.

Away from jackets Penfields hooded shirts have proved to be very popular for the last couple of seasons and this time there’s the Anzak gingham check hooded shirt and the Campbell zip fastening chambray hooded shirt. The Newhall is a basic button down collar chambray shirt and finally there’s the Original logo t shirt in Grey and White which are just plain cotton t shirts with the Penfield logo as you remember it from the early days.

So there’s plenty of quality pieces there for you to get your teeth into and i’m pretty sure you’ll be surprised at the prices!!!!!

Slazeneger Heritage Coming Soon To Not Addicted

We've got the new Slazenger Heritage range due in the next few weeks and its looking just as good as it did back in the day. The move on with it is the v neck jumpers are now made from soft lambswool rather than the acrylic they used back in the 70 & 80s so they're much nicer to wear.

The range comprises of V Neck Jumpers, Cardigans, Knitted Roll Necks, Polo Shirts and that iconic Tracksuit Top Damon Albarn wore in the Parklife video.......what you thought that was fila???????? Thats alot of peoples misconception of the track top but it is definitely 100% salzo!!!!!

Im sure alot of the older boys will remember Slazenger from back in the 80s when many of the lads would be stood on the station platform early doors on saturday shivering in just his Slazenger V Neck Jumper but the cold didnt bother him as he looked the part!!!!!

Slazenger Jumpers have also cropped up on the backs of James Bond and Bing Crosby and probably most famously being worn for what it was originally made for by Seve Ballesteros.

Baracuta Jackets have been around since 1937 when they were made in Chorlton Street, Manchester. They were the first ever Harrington Jacket made and have always been appreciated by those who know style and quality.

Since writing the blog on Friday about the latest Penfield collection and the reference to Oasis we thought it was about time to let you into a secret we've been sitting on for 6 months!!! Penfield have reissued the exact jacket that Noel Gallagher wore at the now legendary gig at Maine Road in 1996 and it's due to land with us anytime now. Don't hang around when we get them on the site as they are very limited and dont expect them to be here for long.

The two tone overhead style jacket is released to celebrate the 35th Anniversary of Penfield. Along with this jacket there's plenty other Penfield clothing due in stock including some stunning jackets, shirts, t shirts and accessories.

We've just got back from a couple of days down the smoke looking at the collections for Autumn/Winter and it's all looking good!!!!

Yesterday we saw Edwin Jeans and they we're showing some great denims in various cuts and great value for money. Under the same roof was Pointer Footwear and as you'd expect was bang on with the odd new style in the collection and some of the classics 'cleaned up' a bit for a fresher look.

We pulled Garbstore, Velour and Farah Vintage all in togther and none of them failed to impress with great stand out pieces in all 3 collections!!!

A new brand we saw which everyone in the know down there was talking about was Lavenham. They make quilted jackets and make them better than anyone else, there's some belters in the collection and a bit more than the basic quilt. With Lavenham you're also getting a bit of history, they made the first ever quilted rug in 1969 and today all their jackets are made in England. If you want a quilted jacket and want to be a bit different from 50% of the UK in their Barbours, Lavenham is the jacket for you!!!

Today we went to see one if our favourite brands who we've had on board from the very early days and they just get better every time we see them. It's the classic American outerwear label Penfield. In the collection was some of the ever popular jackets they do every year and some new ones in there. There was also great shirting, knits and accessories, these boys have developed their range a bit since that Gallagher fella wore that stunning jacket at main road in 96!!!

We didnt have time to go to the zoo or see her majesty but we're back down there for the day next thursday so might be able to squeeze it in then!!!!!!

Fancy A Bit Of History with a Fila Vintage Track Top????

Tracksuit tops have been around for years now it's a simple piece of clothing worn for sport or fashion. One of the most recognised at the minute as a casual fashion item of clothing is a Fila Vintage track top mostly teamed up with a nice pair of jeans.

Fila have been making tracksuit tops and other clothing since 1911 so they've had years of experience. Although initially their clothing was made to be worn for sport it has now been re-issued as Fila Vintage and is now considered fashion clothing. In the 80s Bjorn Borg wore Fila clothing on court coming out the now legendary BJ Tracksuit top which he'd removed to reveal a stylish polo shirt teamed up with classic tennis shorts. This clothing was soon adopted as a look by young casuals around the country, they'd wear a Fila Vintage Tracksuit Top with their jeans and rare European trainers.

20 years later and Fila Vintage clothing featured heavily in the Nick Loves film, The Business, with Danny Dyer and Tamer Hassan wearing track tops, polos and shorts by Fila in most scenes. Now in 2009 Nick Loves remake of The Firm is again packed with vintage clothing and Fila being one of the main players, its cool retro style Tracksuit tops were worn by young casuals going to the match throughout the film.

Back in the 80s lads would go all over Europe to buy or rob fila tracksuit tops but now its much more simple to get one as they are available to buy online.
